NFL warns multiple teams about recent comments

The NFL has contacted multiple teams and warned that the trash talk in the past couple days must stay off the field, ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter was told by a league source.

That said, those comments could affect on-field play. The recent jabs might play into how hits or controversial plays are evaluated in coming playoff games. When considering disciplinary action, the league may also take recent talk into account.

The NFL has warned multiple teams not to bring their trash talk on the field when they play in the playoffs this weekend.

Friday Jets linebacker Bart Scott responded to Wes Welker’s comments about feet, a reference though to be aimed at Jets coach Rex Ryan.

“I’ll tell you what,” Ryan said to Newsday. “Be careful what you say about our coach. His [Welker’s] days in a uniform will be numbered. Put it like that.”

Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie complained about New England quarterback Tom Brady earlier in the week in a long tirade.

The Jets and Patriots play on Sunday in Foxborough, Mass.
