Super Bowl 2011 Winning Predictions

Football fans should start their countdown to the Super Bowl 2011 event next month as today marks exactly 30 days before the much awaited football event happens live at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium on February 6, 2011. Hotels near the area have started to be booked while NFL merchandise can now be seen in various high-traffic areas such as airports, malls, etc.

The big question now lies on which two NFL teams from NFC and AFC will battle in Super Bowl 2011? On my previous article last year of which I wrote about Super Bowl 2011 winning odds, Players Only chose Indianapolis Colts as the top NFL team. Other contenders according to them are San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Green Bay Packers.

Right now, as I look at their respective NFL standings, the top NFL teams in each of their respective conference are as follows: New England Patriots for the AFC East, Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens for AFC North,  Indianapolis Colts for AFC South, Kansas City Chiefs for AFC West, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets for NFC East, Chicago Bears on NFC North, Atlanta Falcons on NFC South, and both Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams for NFC West.

The NFL wild card weekend will start on January 8, 2011 for both AFC and NFC to determine which two teams will battle on Super Bowl 2011. For AFC, it will be New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens vs. Kansas City Chiefs. For NFC, it will be New Orleans Saints vs. Seattle Seahawks and Greenbay Packers vs. Philadelphia Eagle: Below is the bracket and schedule for the NFL Playoffs 2011:

Which teams are your bets to compete for Super Bowl 2011? If we are to use historical data on the appearances of each NFL teams in any Super Bowl game for the AFC football matches, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts all have the same 4 appearances. However, among them New York Jets registered the most Super Bowl wins of 4 games. Meanwhile, for NFC, Greenbay Packers holds the record for most Super Bowl appearances of 4. They also hold the most Super Bowl wins of 3 games.

From the historical data above, it seems that Greenbay Packers is already a sure contender for the Super Bowl 2011 representing the National Football Conference (NFC). However, for the AFC, it seems that New York Jets had the edge to be the Super Bowl 2011 representative.

Let's tune into next week's wild card NFL games to determine the two teams who will compete to get the Super Bowl 2011 trophy next month. In the mean time, you can have a break and test your Super Bowl skills by playing the 2-minute Super Bowl trivia here.

Road to Super Bowl 2011 - NFL Divisional Playoffs

Less than a month from now, Super Bowl 2011 will be held on the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. After last week's victory of New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens in the 2011 NFL Wild Card Weekend Playoffs in the AFC and NFC, respectively, the NFL Divisional Playoffs comes next today to determine which NFL teams will compete for the much awaited Super Bowl 2011 on February 6, 2011.

I am very sure right now that a lot of hotels have been booked near the Dallas Cowboys Stadium as Super Bowl 2011 fans will be traveling from all over the United States to witness the clash between the AFC and NFC Champions. At the same time, Super Bowl 2011 tickets were almost sold out if not totally sold out already.
Based on the 2011 NFL Playoffs Bracket I provided in my previous post here, New York Jets will be facing New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens will be facing Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.

On the NFC Divisional Playoffs, Seattle Seahawks will be facing against Chicago Bears and Greenbay Packers will be battling against rival Atlanta Falcons. The winning NFL teams will advance to the Conference Championship to be held next week, after which we will now determine the two NFL teams from both NFC and AFC to battle on the Super Bowl 2011.

Which teams do you think will win for today's 2011 NFL Divisional Playoffs? Ultimately, which team do you think will compete for the Super Bowl 2011? As for me, I think it would be Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots in the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship and Greenbay Packers and Chicago Bears on the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship. In the end, I think it would be Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Greenbay Packers who will survive and will compete for the Super Bowl 2011.

Super Bowl 2011: Which Two NFL Teams Will Qualify?

Super Bowl 2011 fans get more and more excited as the much awaited football event gets nearer and nearer. In less than 3 weeks from now, Super Bowl 2011 will be held in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, North Texas. Right now, millions of Super Bowl 2011 supporters are scheduling their agenda on their trip to Texas next month. However, up to this very moment, we still don't know yet which two NFL teams will compete for Super Bowl 2011.

Both Super Bowl contenders last year, Indianapolis Colts and defending Super Bowl 2010 champion New Orleans Saints were now out of the scene. With the recent results of the 2011 NFL Divisional Playoffs, we're now down to four NFL teams: Greenbay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Greenbay Packers will face Chicago Bears next week for the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship. On the other hand, in the American Football Conference (AFC) Championship, New York Jets will face Pittsburgh Steelers.
Which among them will qualify for Super Bowl 2011? Personally, I think in the NFC, it would be a sure win for Greenbay Packers. They would represent NFC in the Super Bowl 2011. However, the exciting part would be on the AFC as both Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets are equally strong teams.

Based on the Super Bowl 2011 winning predictions, New York Jets is the most possible representative of AFC in Super Bowl 2011. Between the two contenders from AFC, New York Jets registered the most Super Bowl wins counting to four. They are also the highly favored NFL team by several sports enthusiasts.

Having said that, I think that Super Bowl 2011 will be a battle between Greenbay Packers and New York Jets. Let's see again next week if my predictions are correct when the Conference Championships happens. Meanwhile, I would recommend you to keep on visiting us here at Super Bowl 2011 live stream for more Super Bowl 2011 updates.

Super Bowl ad contestants collecting online votes

Two men with Utah ties continue to collect online votes in a contest that could get their advertisements on TV during Super Bowl Sunday.
Tyler Dixon and JR Burningham are finalists in the Doritos/Pepsi “Crash the Super Bowl” national contest. Five commercials made by non-professionals are in the running. Three will be chosen to be aired in the Super Bowl. A prize of at least $1 million comes with that honor.
Dixon is a BYU graduate and currently a door-to-door satellite TV salesman. The total cost to produce his ad, “The Best Part,” was a whopping $82.
In the ad, an awkward office worker is so desperate to eat the cheese left behind by Doritos chips that he resorts to stealing the cheese off a co-worker’s fingers.
“I always wanted to work in television,” Dixon told KSL Friday morning.
“I was brainstorming with the guys who helped me shoot it and I was just thinking about my favorite thing about Doritos. For me, it’s licking that delicious, cheesy dusty off of your fingers when you’re done,” he explained.
“If you were at the office and ran out of Doritos and ran out of cheesy dust, where are you going to go next?” he said. “To a co-worker I guess.”
The stars of the commercial are not professional actors and did it for free. “You couldn’t ask more out of pros let alone friends,” Dixon said.
Burningham is a Salt Lake City native who went to the University of Utah and graduate school at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. He spent $ 500 on his ad, "Pug Attack.” It features a pug that wants Doritos so badly that she breaks down a glass door to get them, knocking a man who taunted her to the floor.
“We found out about this competition like two weeks before the deadline,” he said Friday morning. “We just did this mad sprint of trying to put together an idea. There is this pug that belongs to a good friend of ours. We were like, ‘OK we have to do something with the pug.’”
Burningham said response he’s received so far indicate his commercial is a hit with kids as well as adults.

Facebook could get a Super Bowl deluge

Roughly 15 percent of the estimated 100 million people who could watch the Super Bowl this year are expected to post something on Facebook about the game or the Super Bowl ads, according to a study by Venables Bell & Partners, a San Francisco ad agency.

Fans may also be texting en masse, the study said. But perhaps because fans tend to gush at length, Venables Bell doesn’t expect to see an explosive outbreak of tweeting, a form of communications that compels its practitioners to express their thoughts with haiku-like brevity.

“During the game, 22 percent of Americans plan to be on Facebook (vs.16 percent in 2010) and 22 percent plan to be texting, while only 4 percent plan to tweet,” Venables Bell said in a press release. “These percentages nearly double for young adults (18-29), with 41 percent saying they’ll be on Facebook, 44 percent reporting they’ll be texting, and 12 percent tweeting. When asked what they will be posting about on their social networks, almost a quarter of survey respondents said they would post something about the ads over plays, the half-time show, parties, players, and coaches.

GM, Chrysler buy pricey Super Bowl ads as outlook climbs

Automakers seeking to score big points with potential customers will dominate advertising at the 2011 Super Bowl, with more than 15 auto commercials scheduled to air during the game.

At least eight automakers have bought airtime. Among them: General Motors Co. is back in the game; Hyundai Motor Co, will run more ads; and Mercedes-Benz will air its first-ever Super Bowl ad.

The annual football fest is shaping up as a major showdown for automakers angling to pile on exposure for new cars and trucks in a brightening sales climate, analysts say.

It’s yet another indicator of the auto industry’s gradual recovery, with companies feeling flush enough to commit millions of dollars for even a single 30-second slot.

In addition to its Super Bowl commitment, GM announced this week that it has signed a deal to be the only domestic automaker advertising on NBC network and cable television during the 2012 Olympics in London. Chevrolet and Cadillac will have “a major advertising presence” during the games, from July 27 to Aug. 12, 2012, it said.

During the recession, many auto companies slashed their advertising budgets to shore up dwindling bottom lines.

According to WPP’s Kantar Media, a New York-based media research firm, auto companies accounted for about 51/2 minutes of Super Bowl ad time in 2010, up from 3 minutes in 2009.

Ford Motor Co. will not advertise during the game, but it will be the only auto company advertising during the final half-hour of the pre-kick program, said Susan Venen-Bock, media manager for Ford and Lincoln.

The Dearborn-based automaker will promote the new Ford Explorer, which this week was named truck of the year at the North American International Auto Show, and the F-150 pickup, which is adding a new engine lineup.

Luxury brands such as Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, will be Super Bowl players, too.

BMW will talk up a major overhaul to its U.S. lineup in its first Super Bowl ad in a decade. Audi will return for its fourth consecutive year, with a 60-second ad. Mercedes will debut its first Super Bowl commercial ever, to mark its 125-year anniversary and the 2011 arrival of four new models, said Donna Boland, Mercedes’ manager of corporate communications.

“With all that’s going on, we wanted to kick off the year in a big way,” Boland said. “And it doesn’t get any bigger than the Super Bowl.”

Hyundai will increase its airtime from two to three 30-second spots at February’s game, with a strong emphasis on its all-new Elantra. Kia will return for a second year, pushing its 2011 Optima; Volkswagen AG is making a comeback after a nine-year hiatus with two 30-second commercials.

Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. aren’t suiting up for the game.

Super Bowl carmakers are back in the game

Next month’s National Football League championship game, which actually takes place just outside Dallas, Texas, features advertising campaigns from no less than eight major car companies. Some have bought more than one spot for the February 6 game on News Corp’s Fox Broadcasting, the year’s biggest U.S. media event.

“Any way you cut it, it’s an auto extravaganza,” said George Cook, a professor at University of Rochester’s Simon Graduate School of Business and a former Ford Motor Co executive. “It’s about assuring the American car buyer that the industry has returned. It’s about winning back trust.”

In advertising circles, where the struggles of carmakers have been deeply felt, the hope is that this signals a better 2011. General Motors Co, a major client, sat out the last two Super Bowls as part of deep cutbacks in its marketing budget. Now it is back with five spots.

“We think it’s a great opportunity given where we’ve been, how competitive the market is right now,” said Joel Ewanick, GM’s global chief marketing officer. “We wanted to start the new year very strong, very aggressive.”
Overall, carmakers should account for roughly twice as much commercial time as they did in 2010′s Super Bowl. It’s a jump that reflects the improving fortunes of the U.S. auto industry, which snapped a four-year sales decline in 2010. The recovery is gradual in the United States, yet most analysts now expect double-digit auto sales growth in 2011.

The Super Bowl is a chance for the industry to make its pitch to about 95 million viewers, most of whom will watch the game live, a rarity in the age of digital video recorders.

As a result, roughly a quarter of all the commercial time will be taken up by carmakers including GM, Chrysler Group LLC, Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Hyundai Motor Co, its affiliate Kia Motors Corp, Volkswagen AG and its Audi unit, are expected to be among the advertisers.

The best and the worst of the Super Bowl ads

Let the record show that 2010 was the year of older women being viciously tackled in Super Bowl commercials. It’s about time: These old biddies have been getting away with far too much lately.

Of course until kickoff, 2010 was known as the Year of the Tim Tebow Pro-Life ad, in which the ex-Florida quarterback and his mom teamed to bring America a message funded by that conservative Christian fun bunch, Focus on the Family. The commercial was kept strictly under wraps until Sunday morning, when CBS released what turned out to be a rather timid, benign message which had Mrs. Tebow talking about her “miracle baby.”

But in the version that actually aired during the game, a strange thing happened. As Pam Tebow finished her little spiel, Tim suddenly flashed in from stage left and took her out with a rather aggressive tackle. Well, that’s gratitude for you.

Anyway, it would have been a pretty funny moment, had pretty much the same thing not occurred moments before. In the previous commercial, Betty White — 88 years old and one of the two surviving Golden Girls — is featured in a Snickers commercial, in which she is ruthlessly tackled during a game of pickup football. We then learn that it turns out to be a guy who is just playing like Betty White, until he gets a bite of Snickers.

It kind of took the steam out of the following Tebow ad “surprise,” turning a potentially humorous commercial into a “why does CBS hate older women?” moment. All in all, however, all the hand wringing over the Tebow spot turned out to be for nothing: It seemed to feel more like an FTD spot than something decrying abortion. Final verdict: $2.5 million not well spent.

But the same cannot be said for Coca-Cola, Doritos and Budweiser, who scored big with multiple ads, turning up the creativity meter after a couple of years of Super Bowl ad blandness. Doritos rolled out four spots and asked viewers to vote for their favorite, and Coke presented us with no less than The Simpsons (Mr. Burns loses all his money, and is cheered up by soft drink-wielding Springfield residents). Budweiser probably hit for the highest average of all, including the return of the Budweiser Clydesdales. Folks love their Clydesdales: Two ads featuring the lumbering horses finished second and third, respectively, in a USA Today Super Bowl reader survey last year.

Oh, and CBS reunited Leno and Letterman, with a dash of Oprah, in what will probably be the most talked-about moment of the commercials. Details below.

Here are all the ads in case you for some reason were watching the game and went to the bathroom during the commercials (I mean really, what’s up with that?).

In case you have a sudden desire to attend a movie tonight, it’s no wonder: CBS unfurled ads for upcoming releases "Shutter Island," "Robin Hood," "Prince of Persia," "The Backup Plan" and, most interestingly, "The Last Airbender;" the new M. Night Shyamalan film that actually looks like it might not suck.

Our favorite Super Bowl commercial? Glad you asked. We’ve created a top 5, followed of course by a bottom five, in descending order:

5. Budweiser, "Lost." How to make the show much less confusing and much more awesome.

4. Snickers, "Betty White." Any time you have Betty White getting demolished in game of pickup football, then talking smack, AND Abe Vigoda, that’s pure win right there.

3. Bridgestone, "Orca." I didn’t think anything could one-up the tiger in the hotel room in "The Hangover," but this does. Bridgestone Killer Whale > Free Willy.

2. CBS, "Dave, Oprah and Jay." Only Oprah could get Letterman and Leno to watch the Super Bowl on the same sofa. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the late-night hosts was inserted via CGI. (Editor's note: We thought so too, but it turns out it actually happened.)

1. Coke, "Simpsons." Mr. Burns loses all his money, but the people of Springfield cheer him up with a Coke and a smile. Noteworthy for: Cameo appearance by Spider-Pig, a TV news broadcaster who isn’t Kent Brockman, and only one regular cast member doing a character voice — Pamela Hayden as Milhouse. That saved some bucks, I'll reckon.

NFL warns multiple teams about recent comments

The NFL has contacted multiple teams and warned that the trash talk in the past couple days must stay off the field, ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter was told by a league source.

That said, those comments could affect on-field play. The recent jabs might play into how hits or controversial plays are evaluated in coming playoff games. When considering disciplinary action, the league may also take recent talk into account.

The NFL has warned multiple teams not to bring their trash talk on the field when they play in the playoffs this weekend.

Friday Jets linebacker Bart Scott responded to Wes Welker’s comments about feet, a reference though to be aimed at Jets coach Rex Ryan.

“I’ll tell you what,” Ryan said to Newsday. “Be careful what you say about our coach. His [Welker’s] days in a uniform will be numbered. Put it like that.”

Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie complained about New England quarterback Tom Brady earlier in the week in a long tirade.

The Jets and Patriots play on Sunday in Foxborough, Mass.

NFL playoff notebook

The Seahawks had two players carted off the field with concussions, TE John Carlson in the first quarter and CB Marcus Trufant in the third.

Coach Pete Carroll said both players were hospitalized and were expected to stay overnight for observation. He said "all indications are that they are okay."

Carlson grabbed a short pass from Matt Hasselbeck and went 14 yards, then was upended on the sideline by Bears S Danieal Manning and came down on his head. The game was delayed for about five minutes as Carlson was attended to on the sideline. He could move his legs.

Trufant made a tackle on Bears TE Kellen Davis with about seven minutes to go in the third quarter. The game was delayed again before he was carted off.

BYRD inspires: Dennis Byrd wrapped up his old, torn jersey, the one cut from his body more than 18 years ago, and sent it to Jets coach Rex Ryan as a gift.

A few days later, he stood in front of the team and provided what WR Braylon Edwards called on Twitter "the most inspirational message of my life."

Byrd, who recovered to walk again after breaking his neck in a 1992 game playing for the Jets, gave a moving speech Saturday night at the team hotel.

"It's that moment for men to put that stamp on who they're supposed to be, who everybody thought they could be," Byrd said Sunday of his message to the team. "This is that time. There comes those moments where you've got to rise to that challenge. This is the one."

MORE JETS: WR/KR Brad Smith sat out with a strained groin. CB Drew Coleman, a nickel back and a key special teams player, was active after injuring a knee in practice Thursday.

BEARS: A left hip injury forced S Chris Harris out of the game, but he said, "My leg will have to be cut off for me to miss this (NFC title) game next week."

PATRIOTS: WR Wes Welker sat out the first offensive series against the Jets amid reports that he was benched for mocking Ryan earlier in the week. Welker received a punt after the Jets' opening drive stalled. But when the offense took the field, Julian Edelman was at receiver. On Thursday, in front of the media, Welker made more than a dozen references to toes and feet, a not-so-subtle reference to recent foot-fetish reports involving the Jets coach and his wife. On the CBS television broadcast, the announcers said Welker was being punished for his comments.

Best and worst: Jets back up trash talk with backbone vs. Patriots

USA TODAY's Sean Leahy looks at the superlatives for the NFL's divisional playoffs weekend:

Best backbone: The lead-up to the Jets-Patriots clash on Sunday was filled with trash-talking, much of it from New York. The Jets moved to the AFC title game with a win on Sunday. But the Jets backed up their brash words by locking down the Patriots offense in a 28-21 win against their rivals that earned them a berth in the AFC title game for the second straight year.

Biggest rout: The Bears left no doubt in a 35-24 win against the sub-.500 Seahawks at Soldier Field. Chicago scored early -- three TDs on its first four possessions -- and often in building a 28-0 lead and holding on to advance to the NFC title game.

Worst letdown: The Patriots had scored more than 30 points in eight straight games entering the playoffs. But their offense fizzled against the Jets in a 28-21 loss that sent the team with the NFL's best record home.

Worst gamble: Patriots coach Bill Belichick called for a fake punt that backfired late in the second quarter of the loss to the Jets. Safety Patrick Chung took a direct snap but fumbled and was tackled at the Patriots' 37. The Jets responded with a TD drive that extended their lead to 14-3 with 33 seconds left before halftime.

Best turnaround: CBS broadcaster Dan Dierdorf said the Heinz Field fans were "stunned" and "angry" as the Steelers fell behind 21-7 at halftime to the Ravens. But the Steelers rallied for a 24-3 advantage in the second half -- while capitalizing on three Ravens turnovers -- to claim a 31-24 win over their archrivals.

Worst drop: Baltimore WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh couldn't corral a fourth-and-18 pass on the Ravens' last-gasp attempt in a 31-24 loss to the Steelers. The Ravens turned the ball over on downs with 63 seconds left after Houshmandzadeh's drop -- which would have netted a first down. The receiver said he couldn't believe he missed the pass.

Worst collapse: The Ravens committed three third-quarter turnovers -- in the span of nine minutes of game time -- that led to 17 Steelers points in a 31-24 loss. Baltimore, which had forced 10 turnovers in its previous two games, had led 21-7 at halftime.

Biggest surprise: Jets QB Mark Sanchez outplayed his counterpart, Patriots QB Tom Brady. Sanchez threw three TD passes while going 16-for-25 for 194 yards and had a 127.3 passer rating. Brady, in the 28-21 loss, hit 29 of 45 passes and threw his first INT since October.

Best clutch pass: Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger connected on a 58-yard strike to rookie WR Antonio Brown to set up a game-winning TD against the Ravens. Brown, who held onto the ball against his helmet after making the catch, stepped out at the Ravens' 4-yard line with 1:58 left.

Worst let-up: The Bears took a 28-3 lead into the fourth quarter of their win against the Seahawks. But Chicago's defense failed to press hard down the stretch and nearly allowed the Seahawks back into a game that it eventually won 35-24.

Best heads-up play: Ravens DL Cory Redding appeared to be the only person on the field who recognized the ball was live when he picked up a fumble by Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger and returned it 13 yards for a TD. Many players likely assumed that Roethlisberger had made an incomplete pass, but Redding scooped up the ball and entered the end zone unchallenged to give Baltimore an early 14-7 lead.

Worst penalty: Baltimore's Lardarius Webb appeared to return a Pittsburgh punt 55 yards for a TD with 5:55 left that would have given the Ravens a 28-21 lead ... but a holding penalty on Marcus Smith nullified the score. The Ravens would settle for a field goal on the drive in a game they'd eventually lose 31-24.

Worst coaching decision: Trailing 28-0 late in the third quarter, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll elected to kick a 30-yard field goal. Olindo Mare made the kick, but Seattle -- unable to jump-start its offense to that point -- still trailed by 25 points with 16:52 to play. Had the Seahawks registered a TD there, they would have been down by just one TD after they scored with 1:25 to play in the 35-24 loss.

Worst time management: Down 21-11, the Patriots used 7:45 of clock time on a drive that ended in a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter. New England seemed to lack a sense of urgency as it attempted to claw back in a drive that ended with 5:15 left in the game.

Worst receiving unit: Ravens wideouts combined for just four catches for 36 yards in the 31-24 loss at Pittsburgh. Veteran Derrick Mason didn't catch any passes, while T.J. Houshmandzadeh (three) and Anquan Boldin (one) had little impact.

Worst flop: The top-seeded Falcons were embarrassed in front of their home crowd 48-21 by the Packers. Atlanta became the third No. 1 seed in the NFC to lose at home in the divisional playoffs in the past four years.

Best rushing defense: The Steelers held the Ravens to just 35 yards rushing in their 31-24 win. Baltimore's Ray Rice was held to 32 yards, and rushed for just 84 yards in three games against Pittsburgh this season.

Worst mistake: Trailing by seven with 10 seconds before halftime, Falcons QB Matt Ryan threw a short out that Packers CB Tramon Williams intercepted and ran back 70 yards for a TD. Ryan appeared to be trying to gain extra yardage for a field-goal attempt.

Best QB: Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers carved up the Falcons while hitting 31 of 36 passes for 366 yards and three TDs in a 48-21 win. Rodgers acknowledged it was "probably my best performance" as a pro.

Best DB: Green Bay's Tramon Williams picked off two passes by Falcons QB Matt Ryan -- one of which he ran back 70 yards for a TD -- in the Packers' 48-21 win. He has three INTs during the playoffs.

Worst wave: Seahawks S Earl Thomas whiffed badly as he tried to bat away a 39-yard TD pass from Bears QB Jay Cutler to Kellen Davis. Thomas mistimed his jump, and never came close to interfering with the path of the ball into Davis' hands.

Worst sign for home team: Packers fans who made the trek to the Georgia Dome on Saturday chanted "Go Pack go" late in their team's 48-21 win against the host Falcons.

Luckiest catch: Seattle WR Mike Williams caught a TD pass that had passed through the hands of Bears DB Charles Tillman late in Chicago's 35-24 win. Tillman dove for the ball and mishandled it, and Williams grabbed it before the ball fell to the ground.

Most unlikely streak: Patriots QB Tom Brady, who won his first eight career postseason games at home, lost his second straight playoff game in Foxborough.

Best kick return: In one of the few highlights for the Falcons, Atlanta's Eric Weems ran back a kickoff 102 yards for a TD in the loss to the Packers. It was the longest return in NFL postseason history.

Best playoff debut by a veteran QB: Chicago's Jay Cutler threw for two TD passes and ran for two TDs in the 35-24 victory against Seattle. In his first playoff start, Cutler set the tone for a Bears offense that built a 28-0 lead by midway through the third quarter.

Best unanswered stretch: The Packers scored 35 straight points in a span from the middle of the second quarter to the early fourth quarter in the 48-21 win in Atlanta. The five-TD stretch -- which included three Aaron Rodgers scoring strikes -- took them from a 14-7 deficit to a commanding 28-point lead.

Best INT: Jets LB David Harris became the first person to pick off Patriots QB Tom Brady since Oct. 17 in the first quarter of a 28-21 win in New England. Harris returned the pick 58 yards and helped disrupt the Patriots' offensive rhythm that was off-kilter for most of the day.

Worst big-impact receiver: Seattle's Mike Williams was a non-factor, his two garbage-time TDs in a 35-24 loss to the Bears notwithstanding. Williams had just four catches for 15 yards, including 3-yard and 2-yard TDs in the final quarter.

Best illustration of Packers' rout: Green Bay outgained top-seeded Atlanta 442-194 during its 48-21 win.

Worst use of home-field advantage: The Georgia Dome was considered an intimidating place to play ... until the past month. Falcons QB Matt Ryan was 19-1 in the team's home stadium until Week 16. Since then, Ryan and the Falcons have lost two of the last three, including Saturday's defeat to the Packers.

Worst career playoff record: Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez -- in his 14th season -- remained winless in his career in the playoffs. He also suffered an ankle injury that knocked him out of the loss against the Packers.

NFL Playoffs Schedule: Patriots Look To Silence Trash-Talking Jets

One side represents quiet professionalism, while the other represents brashness and bravado. Is there any wonder why these two teams don't like each other very much?

Yes, the third match-up this year between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots will, hopefully, be much better than their second meeting, a 45-3 thrashing by the Patriots in Week 13 on Monday Night Football. The Jets did knock off the Patriots by a score of 28-14 way back in Week 2, but the Patriots have been crushing everything in their path lately, winning their last eight games by an average of more than three touchdowns.

The Jets got here by pulling a mild upset of the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium last week, as Nick Folk's 32-yard field goal with no time left gave them a 17-16 win over Peyton Manning and company. The Patriots, as the best team in the AFC and the entire NFL, took last weekend off as the #1 seed in the AFC.

Kickoff time for this one is schedule for 3:30 PM Central time on Sunday afternoon, and you'll be able to follow all of the action on CBS.

If the Jets win this game, they'll be traveling to Pittsburgh for the AFC Championship Game next weekend, while a New England victory means that they get to stay at home and host the Steelers for the right to head to Dallas for this year's Super Bowl.
