Chicago Bears used trade, free agency to build their road to NFC championship game

Whenever an NFL team trades prized early-round draft choices for a player, or spends big money in free agency to make a high-profile addition, some football traditionalists scoff at the idea of building a contender that way. Quite often, they're right. But not always, as the Chicago Bears have demonstrated by reaching Sunday's NFC title game.

The Bears made moves over the past two offseasons that irked traditionalists, trading a handsome package of draft picks to the Denver Broncos for quarterback Jay Cutler in 2009 and signing free agent defensive end Julius Peppers to a lucrative contract last March. The Bears have made that roster-building formula work for them; they'll host the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field late Sunday afternoon with a trip to the Super Bowl at stake.

Even so, Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo said Wednesday he wasn't trying to change conventional NFL wisdom about how to assemble a successful team. "To me, these are aberrations," Angelo said in a telephone interview. "I don't look at it like we changed our model." The Bears chose to buck convention, Angelo said, because they regarded Cutler and Peppers as the sort of proven, potentially fortune-changing players who aren't available often.

"We all know the impact of a quarterback, even more so in today's game than 10 or 15 years ago," Angelo said. "In Tampa [where Angelo worked in the Buccaneers' front office], we had a lot of success but we usually sort of played around the quarterback position. I came here, and we were in kind of the same position. We had some success. We even got to the Super Bowl in '06. But that's very difficult to do.

"When the opportunity to get Cutler came along, here was a guy who was a great talent and established at the NFL level," Angelo said. "We said, 'How do you put a price on that?' Looking back, we would do it exactly the same. With Peppers, you don't see it happen very often that a player like that is available. The closest thing, I think, is you have to go back to Reggie White."

The Washington Redskins have been sharply criticized in recent years for spending lavishly in free agency and trading away draft picks but achieving little success in return. The Redskins continued to struggle after signing defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth to a then-record free-agent contract and trading draft choices for quarterback Donovan McNabb. But people around the league said the Bears' results show that such an approach can produce on-field rewards if the trades are wise and the free-agent money is well spent.

"The message it sends is there's more than one way to do it," Indianapolis Colts President Bill Polian said this week. "I think Jerry and Lovie [Smith, the Bears' coach], particularly Jerry, have done a magnificent job putting this team together. The thing it says to me is that the McCaskey family [which owns the team] and Jerry and Lovie have stayed the course and they've been rewarded for it. You know, there were a lot of hard times there in between. And they've stayed the course, and they've gotten it right."

Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren said the Cutler and Peppers moves paid off for the Bears in part because the rest of their roster already was close to a championship-caliber team.

Super Bowl planners ready for potential Obama visit

If planning a Super Bowl were a TV show, Frank Supovitz would call it NFL Supreme Makeover. The vice president of events for the NFL was giving a tour of the work being done at Cowboys Stadium on Wednesday, dressed casually in shirt and slacks and a Super Bowl XLV vest. Even a state-of-the-art, 2-year-old stadium is subject to "massive" changes to accommodate the biggest single-day sports event in the country, and Supovitz is overseeing the transformation.

Everything is progressing on time, he said, although that doesn't mean there aren't challenges. "Every day there is a curveball, and we check it off and move on to the next curveball," he said. The latest unexpected development is the prospect that President Obama could attend the Feb. 6 game if his Chicago Bears beat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Supovitz smiled when asked and said, "I've heard that."

"We will coordinate with the Secret Service, which already has a presence in the Super Bowl," he said, "and add additional details to our plan. We may have to change some procedures and add assets, but we will deal with it." No sitting president has ever attended a Super Bowl game. But Supovitz appeared unfazed by the potential appearance by the commander in chief as he talked about changes in a stadium under construction for a second time.

He pointed out the temporary seats that are almost all installed. He noted that the playing field is an alternate field the Cowboys had in stock and said it will be painted with the Super Bowl logo and names of the teams soon after the NFC and AFC championships on Sunday. Supovitz walked out the east end of the stadium, where the outside plaza will accommodate "several thousand" season ticketholders who will watch the game on video screens. And he explained how it's possible for fans not physically inside the stadium to count as part of the attendance - making it possible for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to realize his dream of breaking the Super Bowl attendance record of 103,985.

"Actually, this was an original concept, elements of which were proposed in the bid," Supovitz said. "The party plaza is within the stadium campus, and you need a ticket to get in the perimeter. That is the same as it is for every game here. The difference is that during the regular season, ticketed fans can all walk in the building. "It's like having a grounds pass to the U.S. Open tennis," he added. "You can watch matches on other courts, but a grounds pass doesn't allow you inside the stadium."

Supovitz said that the league ran the plan past its broadcast partners because paying to watch the game in offsite venues is not allowed. He said the fact that the video screens in the outside plaza are already in place and used during the Cowboys season makes them part of the regular stadium experience. Earlier this week, representatives of the final four playoff teams were in North Texas, visiting the team hotels in Fort Worth and Irving, practice facilities at TCU, SMU and Highland Park High and getting an extensive tour of Cowboys Stadium.

Weather cooperating

What would a visit with Supovitz be without a discussion of the weather?

It was a bit chilly and windy in North Texas on Wednesday, but those would be ideal conditions for the Feb. 6 game beneath the Cowboys Stadium roof. He allayed any fears that an ice or snow storm would postpone the game, as happened late in the regular season in Philadelphia. "That wasn't a snowstorm but a blizzard," Supovitz said, describing it as the difference between a rain shower and a hurricane. "Here for the Super Bowl, we are working with the Host Committee and TxDot (the Texas Department of Transportation) in a coordinated effort to clear routes to the stadium. And we are bringing assets from other parts of the state to help clear snow or ice. "I'm not trying to tempt Mother Nature, but our objective is to play any game on the day it is scheduled."

Cowboys Stadium Offers Fans $200 Super Bowl Passes to Watch Event in Plaza

Not able to shell out thousands of dollars to watch Super Bowl XLV in Cowboys Stadium? No problem.

According to My Fox Houston, Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels recently announced that fans can purchase $200 passes to watch the game outside in the east plaza on one of the stadium's big screen televisions.

Daniels said that season ticket holders will get first dibs at the few thousand passes being offered.
"It will be an open-air atmosphere, and everybody should have a great time", he said.

The outdoor event will also include performances by the Dallas Cowboys' cheerleaders and the band Reckless Kelly.

Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones has expressed that he wants to break the Super Bowl attendance record, and the NFL has agreed to include outside attendance in the count toward the final number.

Keith Urban set for pre-game Super Bowl XLV entertainment

Country singer Keith Urban will be the pre-game Super Bowl entertainment, the NFL and FOX Sports announced today. Pre-game coverage for the big game will begin at 1 p.m. on Fox 4 (KDFW-TV).

Urban will appear on an outdoor stage under construction in a parking lot northwest of Cowboys Stadium. Urban appeared at Cowboys Stadium in November for a halftime performance at the Thanksgiving Day game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints.

A release from the NFL said Urban's Super Bowl XLV performance will feature music from his recently released CD Get Closer, and will serve to kick off his just announced on-sale dates (to begin February 11) for his "Get Closer 2011 World Tour", which will begin on June 16 in Mississippi.

The NFL previously announced that the Black Eyed Peas will perform in the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show.

It's rumored that Christina Aguilera will sing the national anthem, but word hasn't surfaced yet about who might sing "God Bless America."

The Jets just love playing for Ryan, and he is always getting the best out of his squad. We know if things are going wrong, Ryan is going to be able to come up with some different plan to turn things around. The Jets are going into action as underdogs for the third straight game, and the result will be bet the same once again. The 2011 NFL playoff lines at Bodog Sportsbooks have the New York Jets (+170) as the 2011 AFC Conference Championship selection to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers (-200).

We have to remember that it was only three weeks ago that the Packers were in a position where they had to beat this same Chicago team in Week 17 just to get into the playoffs. The Bears had absolutely nothing to play for, yet they were shutting out the Pack for nearly the first three quarters of the game. The only difference between the Packers then and now is that they are playing near perfect offense with Aaron Rodger continuing to elevate his play every week. Our team of 2011 NFL playoff predictions experts have the Green Bay Packers covering their -3 (-110) point spread against the NFC North Champion Chicago Bears +3 (-110).

Host of Super Bowl XLV : Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

RICK HORROW of NBR's BEYOND the SCOREBOARD: This is Cowboys stadium in north Texas, site of Super Bowl XLV.  It might be quiet now, but imagine the scene in just a few days, when a hundred thousand screaming fans fill the seats of this spectacular venue. They'll be glued to the action here on the field and on that scoreboard above me as the NFC and AFC champions vie for the football championship of the worlds.  It will be the first time that's ever happened in Dallas.  And for one man in particular -- Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones -- having the Super Bowl here is truly a dream come true. In an interview shortly after the stadium's completion, Jones told me it was always his plan to bring the Super Bowl to north Texas and that was one of the main reasons he fought for construction of this $1.2 billion complex. Taxpayers had to cover a lot of that cost, but Jones had no doubt that after hosting a Super Bowl, this stadium would be seen as a wise investment.

JERRY JONES, OWNER & GENERAL MGR., DALLAS COWBOYS:  Take tax money, you're not subsidizing. I know you say you're blind, you're not subsidizing somebody that shouldn't be subsidized. You're priming the pump, getting their intoxication with sports or their team, getting it on the move.  And they'll usually spend multiples of anything that taxpayers committed.  Now, anybody in business knows that's called leverage and knows how smart that is. In this particular case the city of Arlington, all the citizens, contributed $325 million, to a building that's going to $1.2 billion and create a lot of not only very valuable building, but a lot of revenue for the city of Arlington.

JONES:  Yes. Obviously, a Super Bowl does have the attention of the eyes of the world, the event itself.  But the credibility that it gives not only the team but the venue is unquestionable. I've often been asked, what's it worth to win a Super Bowl and the numbers are staggering because they create and add to a tradition that you want to build.  And it's misplaced, I know that it is.  But they do ticker tape parades in this country for war heroes, astronauts and people that win ballgames.   Should the great teachers be there, the great creators of jobs be there, you bet, far ahead of people t hat win ballgames. But they're not.  And the facts are that that kind of interest and that kind of building (ph) can be used to really help not only communities, but help a society build.  And we all have known for a lot years that sports is a respite for hard times. But right now I hope this stadium in its own little way is a little engine of some kind of stimulus program. It certainly has been a stimulus here in Arlington while it's being built.  But I think it will be a stimulus and be an example of how it's really going to get us out of this bind we're in economically we're all sensitive about, we got to sell our way out. And we'll have to do it with people that believe there's a tomorrow and a good tomorrow.  If they do, they'll make financial commitments, borrow some money, go out and hire some people

GM, Chrysler buy up prices Super Bowl ad spots

As we reported previously, Audi will have a significant presence in this year’s Super Bowl ad lineup, but they are not alone. With eight automakers having purchased ad time this year, we can expect to see more than 15 auto commercials. The high exposure event presents the perfect platform for automakers to unveil and showcase new offerings.

Heavy as spending is always a good sign that an industry is on the up. In addition to a big Super Bowl commitment, GM recently announced a deal with NBC whereby it will be the only domestic automaker with ad space on NBC network and cable channels during the 2012 Olympics from London.

“For some of these manufacturers, like GM, it’s a way to say, ‘Hey, we’re back!’” It will be a pricey message, though: ad time during the Feb. 6 game fetches between $2.8 million and $3 million for 30 seconds, said Brad Adgate, a researcher at New York-based Horizon Media, which tracks advertising spending.

Chevrolet has thus far purchased five 30-second ad spots to run during the event. Chrysler has also announced its return to the game, although final details are not settled. Ford will not be running any ads during the game, though they are the only auto advertiser in the last 30 minutes of the pre-kick-off program.

Audi, BMW, Mercedes, and Hyundai are all also expected to make significant noise at the game.

2011 SUPER BOWL XLV PREVIEW

The 2011 Super Bowl is being held on Sunday, February 6th at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.  Cowboys Stadium is the home venue of the Dallas Cowboys and typically has a capacity of around 80,000 fans.  For the Super Bowl the NFL will increase that capacity to over 100,000 people; so the 2011 Super Bowl will have the largest attendance in Super Bowl history.

In addition to tickets to the game, TicketCity can also help you secure passes to all Super Bowl parties.  We can also assist you in finding Super Bowl hotel rooms and/or transportation.

The city of Arlington is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and located about 20 minutes west of downtown Dallas. To get to Cowboys Stadium from downtown Dallas, just take Interstate 30 west until you see signs for the stadium. There are two main airports that service the area; Dallas/Fort Worth International and Love Field.  The DFW metroplex is located 3 hours north of Austin and 4 hours NW of Houston.

There are over 400 hotels in the surrounding area including a few dozen in Arlington and the surrounding towns.  Fort Worth is only 10 miles west and there is a 5-star Four Seasons hotel in Irving, which is just outside Fort Worth.  Book your hotel room early because they fill up fast when the Super Bowl is in-town.  If you need help finding a Super Bowl hotel room, please give us a call at TicketCity.

Super Bowl Automotive Advertising Makes A Strong Comeback

Super Bowl Sunday isn’t just the biggest day of the year for NFL football players and fans–it’s also a huge event for the advertising industry. Many companies debut expensive new ads during the game–some produced especially for the event. After a slow year in 2010 the advertising industry is poised to make a huge comeback at Super Bowl XLV in Dallas on February 6. A number of companies that sat out the Super Bowl last year are back in the mix, and several have bought multiple ad spots during the game.

The most notable returnee to the Super Bowl advertising party is undoubtedly US car makers who have seen their fortunes improve of late after a couple of disastrous years.  At least 8 major car companies will be advertising during the game, with some buying more than one spot.  George Cook is a former executive at Ford and currently a professor of business at the University of Rochester:

“Any way you cut it, it’s an auto extravaganza. It’s about assuring the American car buyer that the industry has returned. It’s about winning back trust.”

General Motors was left on the sidelines during the past two Super Bowls as they were awash in red ink.  This year, they’re back with a vengeance with 5 spots.  Joel Ewanick, GM’s global chief marketing officer, said it was an opportunity to reach a broad audience in a competitive market:

“We think it’s a great opportunity given where we’ve been, how competitive the market is right now. We wanted to start the new year very strong, very aggressive.”

One company that won’t be in the Super Bowl mix is Ford, who hasn’t advertised in the game since 2006.  They will air a spot during the pregame show.  Matt Van Dyke, Ford’s Director of US Marketing Communication, provided this cryptic explanation:

“For us, it’s go left when others are going right.”

For any company, Super Bowl advertising is a high stakes gamble.  After the 2010 game drew the largest audience in history, Fox was in a position to demand a premium for Super Bowl XLV.  Advertisers will pay an estimated $2.8 million and $3 million for 30-second spots in this year’s Super Bowl–that translates to roughly $100,000 each second for advertising.

Familiar Faces To Contend For Super Bowl Title

There’s one thing for certain about Super Bowl XLV–there won’t be any ‘first timers’ competing for the Vince Lombardi Trophy on February 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.  All four of the remaining teams–the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers–have not only played in a Super Bowl previously but have all won a championship in the ‘modern era’ since 1966.

If history is any indication, the Pittsburgh Steelers are the team to beat.  They’ve played in 7 Super Bowl games, and should they make it this year they’ll tie the Dallas Cowboys by most all time appearances.  More impressively, the Steelers are 6-1 in Super Bowls–the six wins is the most by any team just ahead of the Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers with 5 wins each.  The 49ers, incidentally, are a perfect 5-0 in their Super Bowl appearances.

The Green Bay Packers have also had their share of Super Bowl success with three victories in four appearances.  The Vince Lombardi coached Packers won the first two Super Bowls ever, and they added another championship in 1997.  They were upset the following year by John Elway and the Denver Broncos in their last Super Bowl appearance to date.

The Chicago Bears and New York Jets have only one Super Bowl victory apiece, but both were very significant in the annals of NFL history.  The Jets won Super Bowl III in 1969, upsetting the heavily favored Baltimore Colts after a brash prediction of victory by QB Joe Namath.  The Bears lone  victory would come in Super Bowl XX, but that Mike Ditka coached 1985 Chicago team featuring Walter Payton, Jim McMahon and Mike Singletary is considered by many (present company included) to be the greatest team in NFL football history.

Only four current NFL teams have never played in a Super Bowl–the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.  In addition, there are 10 teams that have played in at least one Super Bowl but have never won pro football’s biggest prize.  The Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings are the co-holders of the all time record for Super Bowl futility, with four appearances each without a win.  The Bills did the Vikings one better, appearing in four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990 through 1993.  The fact that these Bills teams had to be extremely good to win the AFC four straight times has been all but forgotten in the wake of their repeated failure to win the big game.

Other teams without a Super Bowl victory are the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals, who’ve made two appearances without a win.  One time Super Bowl participants without a victory are the San Diego Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.

Green Bay Packers Now Super Bowl Futures Favorites

With both #1 seeds losing in the NFL playoffs this weekend, there’s been a huge shakeup in the Super Bowl futures betting numbers.  The new favorites are the Green Bay Packers, though that may have more to do with a lack of respect afforded to the Chicago Bears than anything else.  The Bears made short work of overmatched Seattle while the Packers routed the top seeded Atlanta Falcons.

The Packers are +180 to win Super Bowl XLV in Dallas on February 6.  The second choice is another team very familiar with playing in the big game, the Pittsburgh Steelers who are priced at +210.  The New York Jets are the #3 choice at +400, while the Chicago Bears are the ‘longshot’ among the remaining teams at +485.  In the individual conference championship games, the Green Bay Packers are a -3 road favorite against the Chicago Bears with the total set at 43′.  In the AFC Championship, the Steelers are -3 point home favorites over the New York Jets with the total set at 39.

If you took the futures betting advice we gave you earlier this weekend you’re now in a very strong position with the Bears at +800 and the Steelers at +650.  There’s now a number of ways we can hedge these positions, but the specifics depend on how aggressive you want to be.  You can take the easy route and lock up all four teams which will set up a situation where the ‘worst case scenario’ is break even:

Bet 2 units on Green Bay +180
Bet 1 unit on New York Jets +400

These bets, along with the positions we already have on the Bears and Steelers will produce a breakeven if the Jets win, a 2.5 unit profit if the Steelers win, a 4 unit profit if the Bears win and a profit of just over 1/2 unit if the Packers win.  Another way to do it–which I would prefer–is to bet two units on the Jets at +400.  This will give us three of the four teams remaining which–worst case scenario–means we’ll have a strong plus money position on at least one side of the Super Bowl.  Given the parity of the teams remaining, we can hedge enough on the Packers to turn a small profit if necessary and if the Bears upset Green Bay we’re in a position to make a multiunit profit regardless of the outcome of the Super Bowl.

What Won’t Happen At The Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is the biggest sports betting event of the year, at least for sportsbooks that serve a North American client base (in Europe its the Champions League soccer final).  In light of this, it’s obvious that sportsbooks want to give their players as many Super Bowl betting opportunities as possible which has led to a myriad of proposition bets on every aspect of the game itself as well as on things that don’t happen on the playing field like TV ratings and the halftime show.  One popular form of Super Bowl proposition wager posits a question which the bettor must choose in the affirmative or negative.  For example:

Will each team score a touchdown in the first quarter?

Typically a moneyline accompanies the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ to reflect the probability of the event occurring.  Since its easy to research many of these propositions and the bet prices often reflect public perception more than true probability you can frequently find good betting value on what may initially seem like an outlandish proposition bet.

We’ll get more into the specifics of these in the leadup to the game itself, but in this article we’re going to look at some events that could show up in proposition bets that have never occurred in 45 Super Bowl games:

SNOW: There has never been snow during a Super Bowl, which isn’t really surprising since the league insists on holding the game in a warm weather venue or a domed stadium.  There’s been rain and even drizzle, but never snow.  Given that annual snowfall in the Dallas area is roughly 2.5 inches per year it’s highly unlikely to happen this year, and the retractable roof at Cowboys Stadium makes snowfall during the game even more improbable.

ALL WILD CARD SUPER BOWL: There has never been a Super Bowl contested between two wild card teams.  This year it’s still theoretically possible, though unlikely, and would require the New York Jets beating the New England Patriots on Sunday.

A SHUTOUT: There’s never been a shutout in a Super Bowl.  Miami lost Super Bowl VI to the Dallas Cowboys 24-3, and that’s as close as any team has come to being shutout.  Incidentally, the Dolphins are also the only team to not score a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

A PUNT RETURN TOUCHDOWN: This is a very likely prop bet topic and while there’s been several kickoff returns for a touchdown there’s never been a punt return TD.

OVERTIME: There’s been a number of close calls, but a Super Bowl has never been decided in overtime.  This is another one you’ll definitely see as a Super Bowl betting proposition.

Obviously the fact that something hasn’t occurred in the past doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future, but it’s difficult to bet on something that has never happened.  We’ll have plenty of in-depth coverage of the specific prop bets once they’re posted, but we’ll need to be getting a great price to take a position that anything listed above will occur.

Regional airports prepare for Super Bowl 2011

The skies above North Texas will also be packed before and after Super Bowl XLV. One-hundred thousand visitors are expected to arrive by air; 4,000 of those fans will come to Dallas-Fort Worth on private jets and airplanes.

The area’s smaller, regional airports are bracing for the crowds. Addison Airport will be one of the busiest before, during and after the Super Bowl. The Host Committee estimates more than 400 jets and airplanes bringing in visitors for the game will arrive in Addison.

The airport is already one of the busiest general aviation airports in the country, so finding room for another 400 jets and planes required some serious planning. “Because this is a fairly tight and small congested field to begin with, when you have additional arrivals — maybe 100 additional aircraft staying overnight — you've got to find a place to put them all,” said Addison Airport director Joel Jenkinson.

The Host Committee created an Aviation Action Team, comprised of 25 airport managers, along with the FAA, the TSA and two airlines, American and Southwest. Their goal: Prepare the area's 15 regional airports for an army of fans. The Aviation Action Team estimates 128 jets will land at Collin County Regional airport in McKinney. But Mike Livezey, the manager of Cutter Aviation, believes that number is way too high.

Airport managers and their tenants say the economic benefits resulting from the Super Bowl being played in North Texas are short-term, but they're hoping it could pay further dividends down the road.

Super Bowl XLV's CMT Crossroads set with The Pretenders, Hill

CMT Crossroads will go live when Crossroads heads to Super Bowl XLV and North Texas with a very special episode featuring rock royalty, The Pretenders, and five-time Grammy winner Faith Hill. CMT Crossroads: The Pretenders and Faith Hill Live from the Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam premieres live on CMT on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10 p.m. ET, as part of the NFL Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam festivities. It is the third performance in the concert series and will air from Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Since forming the Pretenders over three decades ago, front woman Chrissie Hynde has proven to be a one-of-a-kind tough-minded, outspoken and an utterly uncompromising artist -- yet also capable of moments of heart-wrenching tenderness. The band's first single, a cover of The Kinks song "Stop Your Sobbing," was released in January of 1979 and gained critical attention. This was followed by "Kid," and then by "Brass in Pocket, "which hit No. 1 in the UK and reached No. 14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Other Pretenders hits include "Back on the Chain Gang" and "I'll Stand by You." Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, the band has had many personnel changes over the years, but original members Hynde and drummer Martin Chambers remain. Additional band members are guitarist James Walbourne, pedal steel player Eric Heywood and bassist Nick Wilkinson. Hynde has recorded just nine studio albums since the original Pretenders lineup cranked out their barrier-smashing debut in 1980.

NFL fans may know Faith Hill best from her performances before Sunday Night Football games.

Faith Hill has established herself as one of the music industry's top vocalists, with a voice that is as powerful as it is recognizable. This very special live performance will mark Hill's long awaited debut on CMT Crossroads. Her career has been highlighted by the sale of over 30 million records worldwide, during which time she has celebrated thirteen No. 1 singles and 20 No. 1 videos. In fact, 1999's Breathe, 2002's CRY and 2005's Fireflies all debuted consecutively at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Pop Album Chart and Country Chart, making her the only female artist ever to accomplish this feat. Hill is a five-time Grammy Award winner, who has also won 3 Country Music Association Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, four American Music Awards, and four People's Choice Awards. In 2000, Hill sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXIV and in 2009, when Hill performed "America The Beautiful" at Super Bowl XLIII, she became the only country artist to ever perform both songs at the Super Bowl. For the past three years Faith has also been NBC's voice for Sunday Night Football, and she's performed at every major awards show, including multiple appearances at The Academy Awards and The Grammy Awards.

The Pretenders and Faith Hill join an elite group of performers who have taped CMT Crossroads, which pairs country music stars with popular artists from other genres -- pop, rock, R&B -- to play together, swap stories, and share their common love of music. Previous episodes of Crossroads have included Bon Jovi and Sugarland; John Mayer and Keith Urban; Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire; Joss Stone and LeAnn Rimes; Robert Plant and Alison Krauss; Def Leppard and Taylor Swift; and Train and Martina McBride.

Tickets to CMT Crossroads are sold out, but tickets still remain for the first two concerts in the series-the NFL Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam on Thursday, Feb. 3 featuring Kid Rock, Duran Duran and Jason Der?lo. The NFL Pepsi Musica Super Bowl Fiesta will be held on Friday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. and featured performers are Jenni Rivera, Chino Y Nacho and Dulce Maria. Tickets are available at www.Ticketmaster.com. Tickets are $45 and $60 for Thursday night and $45 for Friday night's concert.
