Sunday, February 6, at 3:00 p.m., Dr. Jan Kraybill, Principal Organist at Community of Christ, will present her twelfth annual Super Bowl Sunday recital at the Community of Christ Auditorium. Each year at this free event, she presents a program of accessible organ music for organ and football fans of all ages, and this one is no exception. The program will celebrate the ways in which the organ has contributed to Kansas City’s vibrant music scene as we anticipate the addition of a new member of the pipe organ family in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
Jan’s program will open with the dramatic "Chaconne in G Minor" by Louis Couperin, and continue with Handel’s virtuosic "Concerto in F" and a portion of J.S. "Bach’s Trio Sonata in C." The showpiece of the concert is the entertaining and varied "Pictures at an Exhibition" by the Russian composer Modeste Moussorgsky, and the program will close with a tour-de-force for the organist, Dupré’s "Prelude and Fugue in B." An additional treat for the audience will be visuals of the paintings which inspired Mussorgsky’s Pictures, as well as live shots of Jan as she plays.
