When you look back at past Super Bowls, there are going to be a few constants. Good coaching, good defense, and smart quarterback play seem to be a common theme for these teams. So without further adieu, I will get right into the top five Super Bowl teams of all time.
1989 San Francisco 49ers - This team was an absolute powerhouse. The Niners won the NFC West with a 14-2 record under head coach George Seifert. San Francisco led the NFL in scoring and also allowed the third least amount of points. Led by Joe Montana, the 49ers offense was nearly unstoppable as they rolled over everyone as they finished as Super Bowl Champs, as the Denver Broncos found out as they were man handled 55-10. Besides Montana, San Francisco had Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Tom Rathman, and John Taylor on offense, while Charles Haley, Ronnie Lott, and Pierce Holt held down the defense.

1972 Miami Dolphins - The '72 Dolphins finished their undefeated season in style as they went on to win a hard fought Super Bowl over the Washington Redskins. The '72 Dolphins had an interesting situation early on in their season as starting quarterback Bob Griese was injured which forced backup Earl Morrall to fill in, and fill in he did. Miami was more of a running team under Don Shula as they had two 1,000 yard rushers that year in Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris. Paul Warfield was Miami's leading receiver and Jake Scott(notes), Lloyd Mumphord, and Dick Anderson led their defense.
1985 Chicago Bears - When you have your own dance, you know you're good. This Bears team was just downright nasty. Their defense had their way with just about everyone except Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins who were the only team to defeat the Bears in 1985. Before destroying the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, the Bears beat the New York Giants 21-0 and then the Los Angeles Rams 24-0. It's no wonder this team was so good when you consider their head coach Mike Ditka could take on a hurricane (unless that hurricane's name was Mike Ditka). Walter Payton was All World which made things easy for QB Jim McMahon. Willie Gault and Dennis McKinnon were decent options as wide receiver, and between Richard Dent, "The Fridge" William Perry, Mike Singletary, Leslie Frazier, Dan Hampton and Steve McMichael, it's no wonder this defense was so good.
1992 Dallas Cowboys - This team featured one of the best offensive lines ever. Thanks to the beasts up front, running back Emmitt Smith was able to rumble for 1,713 yards on the season. The Cowboys finished 13-3 on the year and embarrassed the Buffalo Bills 52-17 in the Super Bowl. Troy Aikman had himself a solid season thanks to the help of Smith, Michael Irvin, Alvin Harper and Jay Novacek. Defensively Jim Jeffcoat, Ken Norton, Larry Brown and Russell Maryland stopped opposing offenses right in their tracks. If that wasn't enough, head coach Jimmie Johnson had the best hair in all of the NFL.
1966 Green Bay Packers - When Vince Lombardi is your coach, something tells me your team is going to be good. That was exactly the case with the 1966 Packers, the first Super Bowl champs. After finishing the regular season 12-2, they went on to win the first Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 behind a stellar performance by Bart Starr. Running back Jim Taylor led the team in rushing and Carroll Dale was the Packers' leading receiver. Their defense was amazing as they led the league with allowing only 11.6 points per game.
