2011 NFL Playoff Odds: Sub-Par Seahawks Look For Upset Against Brees And Saints

2011 NFL Playoff Odds: The Seattle Seahawks at 7-9 play host to the 11-5 New Orleans Saints on Saturday, January 8 in what appears to be one of the most lopsided first round games in recent memory. With kickoff scheduled for 4:30 PM ET from Qwest Field in Seattle, WA, make sure to check the NFL Wild Card Playoffs betting lines and place your bets before sitting down to watch the game on NBC.

At this point in the season, most teams have their quarterback situation figured out. However, the Seahawks are not like most playoff teams. For one thing, they have a losing record. For another, the quarterback position is still in flux, as primary back-up Charlie Whitehurst earned the crucial win last Sunday over the Rams to clinch the playoffs, while Matt Hasselbeck continues to nurse an injury.

Head coach Pete Carrol, at this point, is still unsure of who will start, but either way, the Seahawks will be at a disadvantage at the most important position on the field.

Lining up on the other side is reigning Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, who leads his surging Saints offense into the playoffs, hungry for another crack at the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Brees will look to take advantage of the Seahawks’ poor pass defense that finished the regular season ranked 27th in the league. In my opinion, he should have no problem doing so.

With a myriad of options at wide receiver, healthy running backs, and a defense that has been opportunistic all season long, the Saints should be able to use the Seahawks as a stepping stone to the next round.

The NFL Wild Card Lines make this one a tougher call than expected, as the Saints come in as 10.5 point favorites, despite technically being the lower seed. The Saints are by far the superior team, as indicated by the overall records, however, a gritty Seattle team will be energized by their noisy home crowd and could make this one close.

I would still take the Saints, as no amount of noise will be able to cover Marques Colston on the outside. Drew Brees shows his poise and skill as the Saints stomp on the Seahawks in round one.
